Jennie Lee, M.p., Urges Women to Fight Nazis

Jennie Lee, twenty-nine, youngest woman member of the British Parliament, speaking before a luncheon meeting of the women’s group of the Chicago Committee for the Defense of Human Rights Against Nazism, yesterday called upon women of the world to help rescue German womanhood from the apathy with which it is accepting Hitler’s decrees.

Miss Lee, who was in Germany recently, said that “events in Germany are an alarm signal which the women of America and England may well heed. If Nazism goes on unchecked women stand to lose their citizenship rights, which they so recently won.”

Miss Lee deplored the doctrine of the three K’s, Kirche, Kinder und Kueche, laid down by the Nazi government for German women. Characterizing the doctrine as “an insult which touches every woman in the world,” Miss Lee stated that the most exasperating thing about the ‘back to the kitchen’ phase of Nazism is the placid manner in which German women seem to be accepting it.

Only the enlightened minority of German women, heroically running the risk of being clapped into concentration camps, stuff anti-Nazi pamphlets under their clothing and circulate them. They are not suspected of being agents contraband, as plumpness does not arouse suspicion in Germany.
