One Jewish Agency official was killed and several injured when a plane which was carrying them from Paris crashed in the hills of Northern Egypt four days ago, it was revealed here today with arrival of the wounded at the Cairo Jewish Hospital.
The passenger killed was Joseph E. Perlman, of the Agency’s engineering department, who was recently sent to Europe to examine abandoned American army camps which the Agency is planning to buy to house future immigrants.
The injured include: Abner Shoulsh, Karl Mintzer, Heller and Zacks (first names unknown,) Major and Mrs. Levine, Mrs. Yacobi, Mrs. Casto, M. Aeronovitz of the Histadruth and Elias Sasson of the Agency. All but the last two were taken to the hospital here by special ambulance. Sasson and Aeronovitz, who were less seriously injured, came by train.
The plane, which carried a total of 21 passengers, had been specially chartered in Paris for the trip to Palestine. It crashed into a hill during a sand storm about 90 miles from Cairo. The crash threw all the passengers from the craft, which broke in two and burned.
The survivors remained at the scene of the accident for 48 hours until they were discovered by a passing caravan, which gave first aid to the injured and arranged for them to be taken to the nearest hospital, 30 miles away.
