Jewish Agency Approves $573.4 Million Budget for Fiscal 1971-72

The budget and finance committee of the expanded Jewish Agency approved a draft budget on Friday for the 1971-72 fiscal year totalling $573452220. The budget for the current fiscal year is $361370000, officials said. The fiscal year starts April 1. All but $8.5 million of the next budget total is expected from Jewish appeal funds throughout the world, with the major portion–$400 million–expected from the United Jewish Appeal in the United States. Officials listed the main expenditures of the new budget, rounded off to the nearest $100,000, as $35.9 million for immigration and absorption; $36.7 million for social welfare services; $72.6 million for health services; $50.5 million for education; $82.5 million for institutions of higher learning; $22.5 million for youth care and training; $42.4 million for absorption in farm settlements; $193 million for immigrant housing; $2.7 million for general administration and $34.5 million for other items. Agency officials said the budget is subject to final approval by the Agency’s world council but passage was reported assured.
