Members of the Jewish Agency executive continued discussions today, preparatory to meeting with members of the Israel cabinet on the grant of a special charter to the World Zionist Organization for work in Israel. The other would define the role and scope of the Zionist movement as a partner of the government in building up Israel.
It is understood that opposition to the grant of such a charter has greatly diminished in government circles and that the question now is when the Cabinet should submit a draft law to Parliament. Some members of the Cabinet hold the view that the issue should be deferred until a new Parliament is elected.
The Agency executive, it is learned, endorsed the position taken by Dr. Nahum Goldmann, chairman of its American section, and the Agency’s special preparatory committee. Berl Locker, chairman of the Jerusalem executive, formally greeted Dr. Abraham Granott, head of the Jewish National Fund, who has just returned from the United States.
