The tidal wave which swept the Liberal Party into power also elected a Jew in every constituency in which a Jew ran for Parliament in the dominion election yesterday, it was revealed today.
Samuel Factor was re-elected by a majority of 5,000 in the Spadina district of Toronto. Factor defeated four Jewish candidates of as many parties.
Samuel W. Jacobs, president of the Canadian Jewish Congress, a Liberal, was re-elected in the Montreal Cartier section of Quebec with a 10,000 plurality.
Abe A. Heaps, Cooperative Commonwealth Federation candidate, was re-elected in the Winnipeg North section of Manitoba.
The election also served as a setback to anti-Semitic Parliamentary aspirants. Saluste Lavery, who opposed Mr. Jacobs, ran 11,000 votes behind the Jewish candidate.
Jean Tissot, now in jail for his anti-Semitic libel against A. J. Freiman, polled second highest in the East Riding section of Ottawa with 3,890 votes. A Liberal took that seat with 16,000 votes.
Mr. Factor is being mentioned as possible Minister of Trade and Commerce.
Police protection against threatened violence was given Mr. Factor and his Conservative opponent, Nathan Phillips, when they toured the Spadina district yesterday. Feeling ran high among the supporters of each. Extra police were kept on hand.
Threatening letters were received at the homes of Factor and Phillips. They were turned over to the police. A number of threatening telephone calls were also received.
