The Jewish communities in Australia were greatly shocked at the Palestine outrages and at a number of meetings held the pledge was given to assist the further Palestine work in whatever direction will be advised.
Sir John Monash, commanding general of the Australian expeditionary forces during the World War, told the correspondent of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that he was shocked at the appalling outrage committed on his coreligionists in Palestine, but he was sure that the British authorities are taking every step to restore order.
“It is a fearful responsibility upon the Palestine government. My heart goes out to my people who are so tragically bereaved at this fearful disaster,” Sir John stated.
The Anglican Metropolitan of Australia published in the Melbourne press a message of profound sympathy to “my Jewish fellow-citizens.”
