The Jewish Community Council of Detroit has appealed to leaders of both parties in the State Legislature for amendment of the state election laws to permit absentee voting on religious grounds.
The move was made because the city election this year on April 6 coincides with the seventh day of Passover. The amendment would permit observant Jews to cast absentee ballots in the election. In 1950, when the election conflicted with the holiday, the state legislature adopted an amendment which was valid only for that year.
