Tabling a proposal to include other national agencies in the scope of the United Jewish Appeal, the West Central States Regional Conference of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds, which concluded its sessions here today, asked that the U.J.A. be renewed and continued for the year 1942.
The delegates adopted a resolution for civic protective organizations to unify their program and coordinate their activities during the coming year.
At the opening sessions, attended by five hundred persons from ten midwestern states, Amos Deinard of Minneapolis, retiring president, told that the success or failure of all post-war refugee resettlement will rest on the outcome of the Jewish refugee program. Rabbi James Heller of Cincinnati in an address at the opening session, reminded his listeners that there have been other Hitlers and other dark periods in Jewish life and even if the Jewish people are not to survive, there are indications that what they have stood for will continue. Morris E. Jacobs of Omaha was elected new president of the Region. Others named are Clarence Ullman of Peoria, first vice-president; Louis Meyers of Kansas City, second vice-president; Paul Veret of Omaha, secretary and E. E. Grueskin of Sioux City, Iowa, treasurer.
