Three major American Jewish organizations were criticized here today at a convention of American Jewish educators for their opposition to federal aid to religious education in the United States. The criticism was voiced by Dr. Azriel Eisenberg, outgoing executive vice-president of the Jewish Education Committee of New York who has been named director of the World Council for Jewish Education.
Speaking at the 40th anniversary convention of the American National Council for Jewish Education, Dr. Eisenberg cited the stands of the American Jewish Congress, the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith, and the American Jewish Committee, He said the position of the three organizations was “anything but helpful to Jewish education.” The three groups oppose such aid as a breach of the principle of church-state separation.
