Veterans of the Jewish Legion who fought under Lord Allenby, in the Palestine Campaign in World War I, will participate Sunday in the annual pilgrimage to the grave of Vladimir Jabotinsky in a ceremony marking the 21st anniversary of the Zionist leader’s death. His remains are in a cemetery in suburban Long Island.
Jabotinsky, founder of the Zionist Revisionist movement, helped organize the Jewish Legion, in which he served with the rank of lieutenant. He died while on a visit to this country on a mission connected with the organization of Jewish units to fight with the Allies against the Nazis in World War II.
The Day-Jewish Journal, one of the foremost Yiddish dailies in the United States, today issued a call for the transfer of Mr. Jabotinsky’s remains to Israel, for reburial there. Morris Weinberg, publisher of the newspaper, cabled a special appeal to Yitzhak Ben-Zvi, President of Israel, expressing his hope that the Israeli Government “will honor the last will” of Mr. Jabotinsky, who had asked prior to his death that he be buried in Palestine.
