Professor Jacques Errera of Brussels University was awarded today the 500,000-franc Franqui prize for “contributing to the raising of the scientific prestige of Belgium” by his researches in molecular compositions.
The award was made by the fonds Franqui, founded by the late Belgian baron Franqui. Professor Errera is a member of a famous Jewish family of scientists and scholars whose history in Belgium goes back to the nineteenth century. Other branches of the family have won renown from the fifteenth century in Spain, Syria and Italy.
