The Bachrach Bros. Department Store, which had been closed by police Friday “for the protection of public order,” was permitted to reopen today with an “Aryan” manager in charge. The store, however, will continue to be known as a Jewish enterprise, it was announced by the chief of police.
In an effort to force sale of the store to “Aryan” interests at a small part of its true value, the authorities filed wholesale charges of “rassenschande” (race defilement) against Jewish employes whom they accused of intimate relations with “Aryan” salesgirls. Publication of the charges resulted in demonstrations against the store and the chief of police ordered it closed.
