The Jewish Theological Seminary of America awarded degrees to 98 graduates at its 75th annual commencement exercises here today. it was the largest graduating class in the history of the Seminary, the academic center of Conservative Judaism in America. The graduating class represented 17 states, Canada and Argentina. Seven of the graduates were Israelis, two of whom received doctorates in Hebrew literature and religious education respectively.
Of the 98 degree recipients, 25 were ordained as rabbi, teacher and preacher; three received doctorates in Hebrew literature and two in religious education; 40 were graduated from the Teachers Institute-Seminary College of Jewish studies; four from the Cantors Institute-Seminary College of Jewish Music. Three of the latter received the diploma of Hazzan, two received the additional degree of Bachelor of Sacred Music and one the degree of Master of Sacred Music.
In other ceremonies, the New York school of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (Reform) today ordained 12 members of its graduating class as rabbis and invested two as cantors.
