Honorary degress were conferred upon Mrs. Felix M. Warburg, humanitarian and philanthropist, Doctor Israel Goldstein, president of the Zionist Organization of America, and Doctor A.S.W. Rosenbach, eminent bibliographer, at the commencement exercises of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America held today in the Seminary’s quadrangle.
Louis Ginzberg Awards, established in 1943 in honor of the noted Professor of Talmud at the Seminary, were conferred upon Professor J.N. Epstein and Rabbi Chaim Joshua Kosofsky, both of Palestine. Symcha Petruska received the degree of Doctor of Hebrew Literature, in course.
Judge Simon H. Rifkind of the United States District Court, who has just been appointed chief civilian adviser on Jewish affairs to General Eisenhower, delivered the commencement address. Rabbi Abraham Burstein of New York delivered the invocation. The degree of Rabbi, Teacher and Preacher was conferred on eighteen graduates of the Rabbinical school. This class was the fourth to be graduated under the Seminary’s accelerated program which made possible the entry of rabbis into the armed forces.
