William Berman, Boston attorney, was elected commander-in-chief of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States, at a stormy session marking the end of the annual convention here last night. Mr. Berman was formerly senior vice-commander.
J. George Fredman, Jersey City attorney, who was commander-in-chief last year, was renominated and his reelection was unopposed, but at the last minute he refused another term because of the pressure of family and business affairs.
Fredman said he would go to London with Samuel Untermyer to take part in the boycott conference opening July 15. He also intends to go to Geneva to appeal to the League of Nations against the persecution of Jews in Germany.
