An inquiry made by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency has disclosed the curious fact that a number of Jews are members of the main organization of the Hitlerism storm troops. When the Stahlhelm, the once powerful war veterans organization, was dissolved by the Nazis and incorporated into the storm troop detachments, the Jewish members of the Stahlhelm automatically became storm troopers and still remain so.
This applies only to the older Jewish members of the Alt Stahlhelm, the senior organization composed of veterans, since the young Stahlhelm had been pure “Aryan” before their incorporation into the Nazi youth movement.
The senior Stahlhelm is at present inactive, but members are classed as reserve storm troops.
