Members of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States in the New York and New Jersey area will be able to march in this Saturday’s parade honoring the veterans of the Vietnam war without violating the Sabbath. The Home With Honor Committee, sponsors of the parade, said it would last until after sunset.
Parade chairman Frank D’Amico said the Jewish War Veterans had backed the idea of honoring the veterans with a parade since the first public announcement, but said they could not participate because it was scheduled for their Sabbath. D’Amico predicted, however, that the large turnout promised by various veterans, union and civic organizations would ensure a lengthy parade that would continue after sunset. He said Stanley J. Wides, commander of the New Jersey Jewish War Veterans, and Jerry Cohen of New York, past national commander of the group, have assured him they would have a contingent to bring up the rear.
