Jews Elected to City Councils in Ontario; Toronto Mayor Re-elected

The Canadian Jewish Congress released today a summary of the results of the recent elections throughout Ontario, revealing that Nathan Philipps was re-elected Mayor of Toronto while Philip Givens and Herbert Orliffe were re-elected aldermen in the Toronto City Council.

Elsewhere in the province, a number of Jews were elected to city and town councils and to school boards and other municipal posts. In North York Irving Paisley was renamed councillor, in Forest Hill Village Laurie T. Simonsky was re-elected reeve while Sidney H. Banks and Edwin Pivnick were named councillors. In York Township Harold B. Linden was re-elected councillor and in Kitchener Michael Walters was renamed councillor, rolling up the largest popular vote in the city.
