Jewry in Arab countries “is in danger of perishing, unless immediate determined and effective steps are taken to strengthen its position,” the American Jewish Committee reported today.
Pointing out that Jews in the Arab countries constitute a large organized body of the Jewish people, with their own traditions and values, the report contains an urgent plea for aid to Jewry in the Moslem world by Jewish organizations. “The process of systematic, legalized impoverishment and ‘declassing’ is in full swing,” the report emphasizes, adding that for decades, “Jewish organizations have forgotten Oriental Jewry’s needs, except for the provision of a few schools.”
