The possibility of Judge Gustave Hartman of the City Court being selected as the Republican nominee for Mayor was seen with the announcement by Albert D. Bunner, Bronx County chairman, that Bronx party leaders favor Judge Hartman.
“Our choice of Justice Hartman for the Republican nomination for Mayor is based upon survey of political conditions in the Bronx, which has just been made,” Mr. Bunner said. “This survey revealed Justice Hartman as the strongest candidate, and we are for him because he is particularly well qualified and because he always has shown himself strong as a vote-getter.
Judge Hartman has served in the Municipal Court and is now the only Republican on the City Court bench. Judge Hartman is President of the Israel Orphan Asylum and former Grand Master of the Independent Order B’rith Abraham.
