The initial broadcast of the Boston Esplanade concerts was heard over WNAC last Tuesday evening. The broadcast was made possible through a gift from Hon. Louis E. Kirstein, prominent Jewish merchant and philanthropist, and Mrs. Kirstein, the cooperation of the Metropolitan District Commission and the Boston radio station.
Boston is the second large city to benefit in superior musical programs through the philanthropy of prominent Jews. In New York Adolph Lewisohn was the donor of the Lewisohn Stadium and is the sponsor of the concerts being given there by the New York Philharmonic Symphony orchestra while the Goldman’s Band concerts were made possible through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Guggenheim and Mr. and Mrs. Murray Guggenheim.
