Tens of thousands of trees in the Wingate Forest on Mt. Gilboa burned down Monday in the worst fire of the season. Initial estimates set the damage caused by the blaze at 250,000 pounds. The fire was started accidentally by a watchman. Fanned by high wind, it spread rapidly and went out of control. Firemen from Tiberias, Afuleh and Hedera battled the blaze in efforts to localize the damage.
