Leaders of the World Jewish Congress held their first meeting Monday with the head of the Eastern Orthodox Church. His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, the spiritual leader of some 250 million people in the Greek, Russian and Serbian Orthodox churches, met in New York with the WJC’s president, Edgar Bronfman, its chairman, Israel Singer, and its executive vice president, Elan Steinberg.
