Georges Leven, acting president of the Alliance Israelite Universelle and vice-president since 1936, died yesterday at the age of 73.
Leven was one of the leading Jewish personalities in France. He was the son of Narcisse Leven, one of the founders of the Alliance and president of the Jewish Colonization Association. In 1937, Georges Leven made a special trip to Algiers and Tunis to visit the Jewish schools maintained by the Alliance. He was active in Jewish community affairs in France and took special interest in the Jewish refugee relief work before and after the Franco-German armistice.
