Ground has been broken for construction of a regional library at Emek Hefer, Israel, under the auspices of the Israel Education Fund of the United Jewish Appeal, as the result of a $100,000 bequest by the late Morris Ginns, of Wilmington, Del.
The library will be the first IEF institution to be built in what is considered a culturally underdeveloped area in Israel — the western edge of the Valley of Sharon. It is the forerunner of high schools planned for nearby Hadera and Natanya, and will serve as an important education facility for the youngsters of Emek Hefer, mainly children of Asian and North African parents who comprise the majority of the town’s growing population of 8,000.
