Identity checks are being held in British schools in an effort to trace Yossele Schumacher, the Israeli boy who has been missing for more than a year, a British detective inspector told the court here today.

Margaret Heald disclosed the new effort to find the boy at another in a series of hearings against Shalom Starkes, 23-year-old uncle of the boy, who is being sought by Israel on an extradition warrant charging the uncle with kidnaping and perjury in the case. Starkes, who is now living in London and teaching at a Yeshiva, was remanded again today and the hearing for an extradition application again postponed until September 24.

Mrs. Esther Iwi, the uncle’s attorney, said that Jews in Britain were organizing a fund for the defendant to assure him representation by a leading counsel. Magistrate Bertram Reece refused bail to the defendant.
