A huge throng crowded the grounds of the Crawford Street Synagogue, Roxbury, at the flag raising exercises held on Bunker Hill Day, Tuesday morning, June 17. The chief guest of honor was the world-famous scholar and scion of an old aristocratic Jewish family, Rabbi Joseph Schneursohn, better known as the “Lubawitscher Rebbe,” who in a short speech, blessed America for its liberal attitude towards the Jewish people and all other races and creeds. The Rebbe was given a tremendous ovation.
Governor Allen, ex-Senator Butler, Representative Reverend Page, Representative Abraham Casson, Assistant Attorney General Louis Sawyer, Rabbi Harry Katzen, Rabbi William Drazin and Alexander Brin were the other speakers. Louis H. Steinberg, who presided, was introduced by Arthur Rabinowitz.
