Matters Affecting Palestine Purchases Considered in Closed Session (Jewish Telegraphic Agency)
The question of patronage in mandated territories will be brought to the attention of the Council of the League of Nations as a result of the policy of the British government to make the purchases necessary for the development of the Haifa harbor only in England.
This question loomed large at a private session of the Permanent Mandates Commission which yesterday began its work of preparing this year’s report on the progress in the mandated territories which are under its control.
The question was raised as to whether the policy of mandatory powers to restrict the purchases of the mandated territories to the area of the administrating government, is compatible with the principle of economic equality for all the members of the League of Nations.
The matter mainly affects the purchases for the construction of the Haifa harbor and other public works which will be made with the funds of the £4.500.000 loan recently floated by the Palestine government.
