A report on recent developments in the situation of the Jews of North Africa was given here today by the Marchioness of Reading, co-chairman-of the European executive of the World Jewish Congress at a luncheon of the WJC’s International Advisory Council. Lady Reading emphasized the role played by American Jewish leadership through the Council in support of the work of the Congress.
Commenting on the reactions in Europe to the Eichmann trial, the WJC leader said that the recrudescence of anti-Semitism had been expected as the trial proceeded in Jerusalem. That this had not happened, Lady Reading declared, was due in great measure “to the effective work done by the World Jewish Congress in places where it had been most helpful.”
