Lord Melchett, prominent Jewish industrialist, proposed today the expatriation of 35,000 Jews between the ages of 18 and 19 from Poland annually for twenty years to reduce materially Poland’s Jewish population of 3,500,000.
In an article in The Spectator, Conservative weekly, he said extension of the proposal to Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia and Rumania would result in emigration of sixty to seventy thousand young Jews annually in Palestine, reducing the Jewish question to a simple mathematical problem.
He urged an agreement among European powers to solve the Jewish problem which, he said, might otherwise lead to disaster. Pointing out that anti-Semitism was driving Jews to Communism, he held Zionism as the sole alternative.
