“Send into Palestine unlimited numbers of Jews so that they can bring their power and culture,” declared J. McGovern, member of the British Parliament and leader of the Independent Labor Party, after a two-week survey of the Holy Land.
His conclusions were contained in an address scheduled for delivery over the Government-owned Palestine Broadcasting Service, but barred at the last moment because he refused to delete “controversial” portions. Newspapers published the text of the speech.
He lauded Jewish accomplishments in the Holy Land, criticized the actions of the British administration and charged that recent disorders were an “unnatural occurrence” stimulated by “those elements who felt the loss of their power in the near future.”
