Mond Defeated by Jewish Laborite for Parliament

Sir Alfred Mond, Liberal, was defeated for Parliament in Swancea by W. Samuel, Laborite. Another labor candidate, Dr. Hadenguest, defeated E. A. Strauss, a previous Liberal member for Southwark. Dr. Hadenguest is the son-in-law of the famous Colonel Julian Goldsmid, who was a friend of the late Dr. Herzl. Dr. Hadenguest is actively associate with the Jewish Sanitary Association, OZE.

Liberals elected include Percy A. Harris for Bethnal Green, Leonard Franklin, Major Hore Belisha. On the Conservative side Sir Walter Defrece was elected and Major J. Brunel Cohen, son-in-law of Sir Stuart Samuel, of Liverpool. Major Cohen was unopposed, as was also Sir Philip Sassoon, Conservative. Sir Philip had served as private secretary to Lloyd George during the latter’s Premiership.

Other Jewish candidates whose fate is still in doubt are Samuel Samuel for Wandsworth, A. M. Samuel for Surrey, both Conservatives, Emanuel Shinwell, Laborite, of Scotland, R. B. Solomon Liberal, for Stepney, Councillor Sam Finberg, Conservative, and H. Lisser, Liberal. L. J. Stein, political secretary of the Zionist Organization who accompanied Dr. Weizmann as his secretary on the Zionist leader’s first visit to America, is the Liberal candidate for Kensington, whose fate is still unknown.

Captain Foxcroft who had just returned from Palestine where he assured the Afab Executive that he would oppose Zionism even more strenuously in the new Parliament, has been defeated.
