The flow of American visitors to Israel increased by 47 percent last month, the biggest January traffic increase in the history of American tourism to Israel. Over 14,000 Americans came to Israel in January (usually a low traffic month), which followed the record million visitors from around the world who vacationed in Israel in 1977.
Commenting on the figures, Israel Zuriel, Israel’s commissioner for tourism in North America, pointed out that January was the first month of the year during which the State of Israel would be celebrating its 30th anniversary, and that he was confident that the celebrations taking place in the country during the year would do much to continue to encourage more Americans to visit Israel in 1978.
