Not only science, but music also, has an important claim upon Professor Albert Einstein, Leopold Godowsky, chairman of the concert which is to be given Sunday evening at Carnegie Hall in honor of the noted artist, declared yesterday. The concert, which will constitute the musical world’s tribute to the greatest living exponent of science, will feature a large number of prominent concert and operatic stars.
Discussing Dr. Einstein’s influence upon music, Mr. Godowsky said:
“His long devotion to the art of music has been a noble inspiration to musicians everywhere. We of the musical world are proud to claim Professor Einstein as one of our most revered leaders.”
Among the distinguished artists who will appear at the concert are Mary Lewis, former soprano of the Metropolitan Opera Company; Josef and Rosina Lhevinne, pianists; Emanuel List basso of the Metropolitan; Emma Redell, soprano of the erstwhile Chicago Opera Company; Armand Toketyan, former tenor of the Metropolitan Opera Company; Conrad Thibault, radio bartone; Vera Kaplun-Aronson, Mary Sherratt Coolidge and Ethel Chasins, pianists; the Musical Art Quartet and the Kroll String Sextet.
Dr. Einstein, who will leave for Europe two days after the concert, will acknowledge this tribute in a farewell address to the United States.
