N.Y. Mayor Urged to Act Against Firms Practicing Discrimination

The Commission on Intergroup Relations of New York City, a municipal agency, today urged Mayor Robert F. Wagner to act against firms holding city contracts which practice discrimination. Herbert Bayard Swope, chairman of the unit, told the Mayor that some contractors and subcontractors on city jobs were unaware of a local law prohibiting discrimination in hiring.
