A Nazi cell leader and his wife who were charged with having used their Nazi status as a means of extorting money from a Jewish merchant have been sentenced to imprisonment by a Darmstadt court, which also ordered them expelled from the Nazi party and rescinded their citizenship rights for five years.

The cell leader, Otto Ernst, was given a one-year term. His wife, who led a woman’s cell, must serve two and a half years in prison.

In announcing the sentence the attorney for the state declared that the case called for severe punishment in order to protect decent Jews from indecent Nazis.
