Signora Cerruti, wife of the Italian ambassador in Berlin, it has just been revealed, was one of the victims of the Hitler drive against Jews. The Signora, a beautiful brunette, while driving in her car, was stopped by hooligans, who accused her of being Jewish and dragged her out.
Nazi police intervened and arrested her for “provocation,” not troubling to listen to her protests. She was taken to the nearest police station, where she succeeded in establishing her identity. Grovelling apologies followed.
