American citizens are encountering no difficulties in obtaining Nazi exit visas, now required to leave occupied France, it was learned here today from an American who has just arrived from the Nazi-held territory.
The American reported also that the French tricolor has been replaced by the Nazi flag at Hendaye, Franco-Spanish border city through which he came. He said the French border authorities were still carrying out their functions, but German soldiers at the frontier were examining all passports for the required Nazi exit visas, while French customs officials continued to conduct the customs examinations.
Reports from Bordeaux said that food prices have gone down, a majority of the French refugees having left the city, and that there was no longer any shortage of sleeping quarters. Refugees still in the city, however, were reportedly completely without funds and in urgent need of relief.
