Nazism Still Strong in Germany, Jewish Congress Study Establishes

Nazi indoctrination still affects many Germans, 25 years after Hitler’s accession to power on January 30, 1933, according to a study made by the Western Hemisphere Executive of the World Jewish Congress in Mew York. The study establishes the following facts:

Dozens of neo-Nazi organizations, including 43 youth groups, publishing houses and periodicals still follow the Nazi line in West Germany. Estimates, based on surveys, show that 30 to 40 percent of West Germans are anti-Semitic, and still believe in such Nazi slogans as “world conspiracy of Jews” and “Jews are cur misfortune. ” Former Nazis, including high officials, have been rehabilitated. German scientific polls revealed, as late as December, 1957, that 20 percent of West Germans thought “Germany would be better off without Jews.” Also, one in ten would willingly participate in an anti-Jewish pogrom.

The WJC study also shows that in Austria groups of Nazis and a number of publications exist. In Sweden, Holland, Belgium, France, Italy, an3 even in Britain and Switzerland, “former11 Nazis continue their propaganda and organizations. All meet from time to time to discuss joint measures and problems and have established inter-state organizations.
