New York’s Central Synagogue is reopening after a fire forced its closing three years ago. Hundreds of workers were involved in the synagogue’s restoration, which cost some $40 million. The fire occurred in August 1998, when workers were repairing an air conditioning unit on the roof of the synagogue.
