An attempt to form a Knesset opposition bloc of Likud, the National Religious Party and the Agudah bloc has failed. But the three groups have agreed to meet frequently to coordinate their stand on political issues and in the Knesset and Knesset committees. Each of the three groups had a different reason for not forming a bloc.
The NRP refused to sign a declaration that it will not join any government unless the Who is a Jew question is resolved to meet the demands of the Orthodox establishment. Likud refused to block Knesset acceptance of a change in the electoral system. The Agudah bloc opposed the formation of a united opposition but said it would act in coordination with the others on the merit of each issue.
