Jewish leaders from five continents, members of the executive committee of the World ORT Union, met here and endorsed an $8,000,000 budget for 1962 for vocational training schools in 19 countries, the organization reported today.
Daniel Mayer, executive committee chairman, and Dr. William Haber, president of the American ORT Federation and chairman of the central board of the world union, served as co-chairmen for the meeting. Max A, Braude, World Ort Union director-general, reported that the 81-year-old organization now has a network of 600 schools and training facilities attended by more than 36,000 men, women and youth.
He urged the executive committee “to find a formula to meet needs which have already outstripped an $8,000,000 budget to allow us to assist the waiting list of thousands of young people who need our help in learning skills ” Dr. V. Halperin, World Ort Union director described CRT projects undertaken at the request of the Israeli, United States and Swiss governments, including field training and programs at the central Ort Institute in Anieres, Switzerland.
