The ancient synagogue here, known as the Schiffschul, burned down yesterday. Authorities investigated the conflagration and said that the cause of the fire was faulty electrical wiring. The Schiffschul was badly damaged by the Nazis after World War II, but was subsequently restored. It was located in Vienna’s Jewish section, Der Judegasse.
