The widest round-up campaign ever undertaken in Palestine is getting under way here as the government of Palestine opens its campaign against Jewish tourists who remain in Palestine illegally. The campaign is beginning in Jerusalem, where even hotels are raided at midnight in the search for persons illegally in the country.
The campaign against illegal Jewish immigration into Palestine is assuming the character of a mass hunt. Last Thursday, Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister, Secretary of State for the Colonies in the MacDonald cabinet, announced in the British House of Commons, that the strictest measures would be taken against tourists who remained in Palestine and against all others, who came into Palestine in an illegal fashion.
Control of the Palestine frontiers has been tightened, but only passports held by the Jews are being examined. Patrols of British and Arab constables and motor-boat patrols are engaged in a country-wide check-up, to capture as many of the illegal entrants as possible. In addition, the Palestine government has offered rewards for the capture of offenders.
