Perez Hirschbein, noted Yiddish playwright and poet, died here last night at the age of 68, after an illness of several years. Funeral services will be held here tomorrow.
A native of Byelorussia, Hirschbein came to this country in 1911 and wrote prolifically for the New York Yiddish stage and the Yiddish newspapers, In addition to his plays and poems, he was also known for his children’s stories and travel books. His works were translated into Hebrew, Russian and German. “The Idle Inn,” one of his plays, was produced in New York on Broadway.
