At least 100,000 Jews must enter Israel within the next four months, according to present plans of the Histadruth, Isaac Hamlin, secretary of the National Committee for Labor Palestine, declared here at a press conference following his return, from a trip to the Jewish state.
Dr. Joseph Mayer, chairman of the Emergency Medical Council in Israel, who arrived here by air from Haifa yesterday, told a press conference today that “the war in Palestine and the huge influx of Jewish immigrants since the first of the year have made it imperative that hospital and medical services be tripled.”
Dr. Mayer reported that Israel had only two hospital beds per 1,000 population whereas the minimum standard in Europe was five-and-one-half beds and in America over eight beds per thousand. “There is likewise a shortage in certain medicines, such as penicillin, which I hope to purchase here in quantity,” he said.
