Polish judicial authorities today concluded their investigation of the attack on Professor Hercali Handelsmann, aged Jewish dean of the history faculty of the University of Warsaw. The five Endek students, who were arrested, members of the National Democrats, anti-Semitic anti-government party, are charged with “manhandling a state official.” The punishment for this offense is two years in jail. The men are out on bail pending trial.
Professor Handelsmann was beaten on the campus of the University of Warsaw as he was returning from a student meeting where he had vigorously opposed proposals by Endek students for anti-Semitic measures in the University.
