The Jewish Parliamentary Club, on behalf of the Jewish population of Roumania, today presented a list of the Jewish demands to Premier Mironescu. The Club asked punishment of all anti-Semitic agitators, full compensation for those who suffered in the anti-Semitic riots of last summer, the approval of a citizenship law in consultation with the Jewish Parliamentary Club and the creation of a Jewish Teachers’ School and a modification of the existing school laws.
In connection with its demand for compensation for the victims of the anti-Semitic disturbances the Jewish Parliamentary Club pointed out that the sums offered by the government did not equal three per cent of the damages suffered. The Club protested against a cut in the State’s subvention to the Jewish Schools, and asked for a modification of the cooperative’s law to enable the private cooperatives to enjoy the same advantages as the government institutions. A request was also made for an amendment for the compulsory Sunday rest law so as to improve the situation of the Jews who are now compelled to abstain from work on Saturday and Sunday.
Premier Mironescu promised to study the demands as well as the entire Jewish question and to call the Jewish Parliamentary Club to discuss the matter again.
