Premier Imredy, presenting his new Government to Parliament, announced the beginning of a relentless fight against Hungarian Nazis and other subversive extremists. Dr. Imredy’s rightist cabinet submitted to Parliament two bills providing for rigorous suppression of all subversive propaganda. Public employes, under the new laws, will be forbidden to belong to any party of subversive tendencies. It will also be forbidden to take an oath to any other person than Regent Nicholas Horthy.
As regards German minority agitation in Hungary, Dr. Imredy stressed in his address to the Lower House, the Government will not tolerate any Nazi propaganda organization. It was learned that the Government will also set up special courts to try offenses against the State, such as lese-majeste, high treason and illicit manufacture or possession of explosives.
Economic improvement rather than political action will be the immediate aim of the New cabinet, political observers said. Imredy was expected to take immediate steps to improve the situation of the unemployed and of agricultural workers. As Minister of Commerce as well as Premier, Imredy probably will attach particular importance to economic relations with the western powers. No change was predicted in foreign policy, which remains under the direction of Koloman Kanya, Foreign Minister in the previous cabinet.
