President Yitzhak Ben-Zvi emplaned this morning at Lydda Airport on a series of state visits to four African countries. His tour will last 17 days.
Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, members of the Knesset (Parliament) and representatives of the diplomatic corps in Israel were on hand to wish the President farewell. A salute of guns was fired, and the President reviewed a guard of honor lined up on the airfield tarmac.
Before entering the plane that was to take him first to Paris, the President declared that he would convey the sympathy and friendship of the Israeli people to the countries where “the tidings of liberty to all mankind, first proclaimed by our people thousands of years ago, are now becoming a reality.” President Ben-Zvi will visit the two Republics of the Congo, the Central African Republic and Liberia. In each country he will be the guest of its president.
